Remail Wins Innovation Award at Top Drawer

Our first trade show — and our first major award
In January 2026, Remail exhibited at Top Drawer for the first time.
Top Drawer is one of the UK’s leading retail trade shows, bringing together thousands of buyers, independent retailers, designers and emerging brands at Olympia London.
For Remail, it was an important milestone. It was our first opportunity to introduce our reusable greeting cards to the wider retail industry in person, explain how the format worked and hear directly from the people choosing products for their stores.
We hoped the show would help more retailers discover Remail.
We did not expect to leave as an award winner.
Winning Innovation in Design
During the show, Remail was named the winner of the Innovation in Design award as part of Top Drawer’s Spotlight Awards.
The Spotlight Awards celebrate brands and products that demonstrate creativity, originality and commercial potential. The awards recognise exhibitors that are pushing boundaries, introducing new ideas and helping redefine what great retail design can look like.
Remail was selected for its approach to rethinking the traditional greeting card.
Our cards look and function like conventional greeting cards when they are first sent. The difference is built into the interior: a postcard layout is printed on the inside-left, alongside a perforated fold.
Once the card has been received, the front can be detached from the original handwritten message, written on and sent again as a postcard.
The award recognised a simple idea at the heart of Remail: that thoughtful design can extend the useful life of an everyday product.
A small change to a familiar format
Greeting cards have remained broadly unchanged for generations.
They are chosen carefully, written in, given to someone and often discarded or recycled after a relatively short period. We wanted to question whether that familiar product journey had to end after a single exchange.
Remail began by asking what would happen if reuse were incorporated into the card from the beginning.
The result was not an entirely new type of object, but a carefully considered change to one people already know and understand.
A perforated fold allows the personal handwritten message to be kept, while the front design gains a second purpose as a postcard.
There are no additional components and nothing needs to be assembled. The reuse mechanism is built directly into the card.
That simplicity is central to the design.
Recognition from the retail industry
Winning the award was particularly meaningful because it came during Remail’s first appearance at a major trade show.
The Spotlight Awards are judged within a retail environment, where creativity needs to work alongside practical and commercial considerations.
A product can be imaginative, but it also needs to be easy for customers to understand, suitable for retailers to stock and appealing enough for someone to choose from the shelf.
The award gave us valuable external recognition that the Remail concept could meet those different needs.
It also helped introduce the brand to buyers and other businesses across the greeting card, stationery, gifting and independent retail sectors.
Trade publication PG Buzz subsequently reported on Remail winning the overall Innovation in Design accolade, alongside coverage of the wider greetings and stationery community exhibiting at the show.
What innovation means to Remail
Innovation does not always need to involve complex technology or an entirely unfamiliar product.
Sometimes, it begins by looking again at something ordinary.
For us, innovation meant reconsidering the full life of a greeting card:
- how it is selected and sent;
- what the recipient values and wants to keep;
- which part of the card could remain useful;
- and how reuse could be made intuitive.
The personal message remains with its original recipient. The front design becomes a postcard that can carry a new message to somebody else.
A single card can therefore create more than one meaningful connection.
This approach reflects one of Remail’s core values: Designed for Circularity.
Rather than treating recycling as the first or only answer, we look for ways to keep products and materials useful for longer.
Designed to be desirable, not just sustainable
For the reusable format to work, people must first want to buy and send the card.
That is why creativity and visual design are equally important to us.
Remail works with independent artists and designers to develop cards that feel distinctive, joyful and relevant across a broad range of occasions. Our range includes bold typographic designs, original illustration and cards featuring detachable bookmark keepsakes.
The sustainable idea should not require a compromise in quality or appeal.
Our aim is to create greeting cards that customers choose because they love the design — and value even more once they discover what the card can do.
A milestone at the beginning of our journey
Winning Innovation in Design at Top Drawer was an important moment for Remail, but it also felt like a beginning.
The award came shortly after our public launch and at the start of our expansion into wholesale. It gave us confidence that there was an appetite within the retail industry for greeting cards designed around reuse and circularity.
Since then, we have continued developing the range, collaborating with independent creatives and introducing Remail to more retailers and customers.
There is still much more we want to explore.
Greeting cards are only one example of a familiar product that can be reconsidered through thoughtful design. Our ambition is to keep asking how creativity can help everyday objects remain meaningful and useful for longer.
Thank you
Awards may recognise a product, but every product is supported by people.
We are grateful to Top Drawer and the Spotlight Awards judges for recognising the idea behind Remail, to the retailers and visitors who stopped to learn how the cards worked, and to the artists whose creativity helps bring the collection to life.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has chosen, stocked, sent or remailed one of our cards.
Winning Innovation in Design was a proud moment for us — and encouragement to keep rethinking what a greeting card can become.
